Muslim Life Center Ramadan Sponsorship Policy
Thank you for your interest in sponsoring a Ramadan Iftar. The Muslim Life Center at Columbia University welcomes sponsorships from student groups, local businesses, individuals and families. The aim of sponsorship is to obtain funding, in-kind donations of catered meals, and volunteers in order to provide community iftars that may not otherwise be available. Last Ramadan, sponsorships played an essential role in the quality of Ramadan meals, and to continue this for 2020 we need support through public funding and volunteerism.
What is recommended
Every night of Ramadan, we anticipate hosting 150 guests per night, which costs approximately $1,950. Each iftar also requires many volunteers to help set-up, serve food, and break down, and offering to volunteer on the sponsored night is highly appreciated.
General responsibilities of volunteers
Volunteers should preferably confirm their participation with the program coordinator, , one month in advance.
Commitment and timeliness are critically important, and volunteers should arrive at Earl Hall Auditorium by 7 pm on the sponsored night.
Volunteers might be responsible for following up on food delivery, setting-up, serving food and dates, and/or breaking down.
Every year the Muslim Life Center recruits students for a Ramadan Committee (RC) that helps with various tasks as their school schedule permits. Your volunteer will coordinate directly with the Ramadan Committee.
Families have the chance to invite up-to 20 people to their sponsored night. Businesses and organizations can choose from below:
